Kuruyurltu

30cm x 75cm:

This tunnel represents the hole in the man's body after being speared.

In this work, Mrs E. Giles portrays the creation narrative associated with the 'Mangari' region, a significant cultural and spiritual site for the local Ngaanyatjarra people.

This cavern-like tunnel holds a large body of water, and is the the physical representation of a creation story in which a man is speared through the torso as punishment for a crime.

The painting features a striking use of contrast, where the vivid yellow and pink hues emerge against the stark black background, drawing the viewer into the depths of the 'Kuru Yurltu' or 'Hollow Eye'.
