NGANAMPA ART CENTRE / ART CENTRE–LAMPATJU
Tjarlirli and Kaltukatjara Art is 100% community owned and governed. Our art centres are where we come to paint, share stories, celebrate, sing and keep our culture strong.

Winsome Newberry — Artist
“We're doing painting in the art centre in Docker River. Sometimes, ladies dancing at the art centre. It makes us feel happy. Makes the art centre happy.”

Denise Brady — Artist
“This is how our kids learn our stories. That way they don’t get lost.”

Sally Butler — Artist
“Iriti — long time our old people have been painting. They started this art centre.”

Faith Butler — Artist
“We have old ways, and new ways. [We painted on] canvas first – now fabric too.”

NGANAMPA NGURRA
OUR COUNTRY, OUR CULTURE
Our art centre supports us to return to Country, follow cultural practices and pass on our knowledge to younger generations.

Christobell Protty — Artist
“Tjala wirunya, sweet one. My mothers taught me [to dig for honey ants].”

Butler — Artist
“Ngurra nyakuntjatku, go visit my father's country, my mother's country.”

Jade Butler — Artist
“Out bush we cook some kangaroo tail; walk around looking for tingka and maku (sand goanna and witchetty grubs); making waru (fire) for cuppa tea.”

Carol Giles — Artist
That’s our country. That kapi (rockhole). Men go one side, women other side. They throw rocks in the kapi to say “we here.”
