Patjantja

40.6cm x 55.9cm

Acrylic on canvas

The painting depicts the story of a confrontation between the Kuniya and Kuningka (marsupial cat). Katjarra's use of white circular motifs represents the python eggs, symbolizing both the life cycle and the enduring presence of her Dreaming. Her detailed brushwork and deep knowledge of the land give this work a spiritual depth, linking her own family history to the ancestral beings that continue to inhabit this sacred site.

Katjarra Butler
Katjarra’s spirit is embodied in the power of her brushstrokes, the broad fields of colour engulfing the spectator and offering a momentary glimpse of Katjarra’s knowledge of the power and enormity of her tjukurrpa.
