Josephine's jarlirli - depicts a site significant to Tjukurla's Tingarri women.

The painting’s linear and circular motifs represent ceremonial spaces where women prepared food for men and visitors during the Tingarri ceremonies.

This work honors the women's essential role in sustaining their communities through gathering, preparing, and cooking bush tucker.

Josephine Napurrula
Josephine was born in the bush, close to the later-established Tjukurla community. She is the daughter of Kulata (Kuliti) Tjakamarra, who was from Payarrnganya and Kuruyultu, near Tjukurla, and his wife Mayaru, who was from Walungurru (Kintore).
