This painting depicts the story of Irriya.
“At the rockholes of Irriya, two men were sitting down telling stories. They were having a close look at the rock hole there. They went back to tell the others, who were at Karku, about this place and what they had seen there.”
The painting exhibits the meticulous dotting technique which is a hallmark to the Indigenous art in Central Australia. Nola's brush strokes are both precise and fluid, revealing a balance between discipline and spontaneity. Her hand skilfully navigates the canvas, creating a harmonious composition. The dominant earthy tones evoke a connection to the land and the ancestral stories it embeds. With the tightly packed dots Nola creates a visual effect drawing viewers into the depth of the artwork and beckons viewers to become part of the conversation between tradition and contemporary understanding.
