The painting is a depiction of an important site where ochres are collected for ceremonial use.
In the dreaming times, many emus were travelling across country from NT into WA. These emus went down into the rock holes and some took the form of trees. Here, the ochre is excavated in a special way using a stick. Ceremony is performed and the emu spirits are released to again take physical form.
